The Mercedes-Benz M-Class was first introduced back in 1997 as a smaller option than the brand’s larger GL-Class. Since its introduction, the M-Class has steadily established itself in the luxury mid-size SUV class, giving the Mercedes brand a leg up on the competition.

EARLY HISTORY

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a luxury mid-size SUV lineup produced at Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa, Alabama, plant, where initial production began on February 9, 1997. It was created to replace the G-Class, originally part of a joint platform with Mitsubishi, though the partnership was abandoned before the M-Class was completed.
